So about a week ago, I decided to try a different diet way of eating. I decided to to eliminate gluten and dairy from my meals for at least 30 days to see how I feel. My family had tried it before because my daughter has eczema. I wanted to try to see if maybe gluten was flaring up her skin. While it did not really change in my daughter's skin, I found out that I felt less bloated after meals. Also, being a sandwich lover, I probably had at least a slice or two of bread a day. So feeling bloated was a daily occurrence.
So I start my quest for 30 days without gluten or dairy. I really thought it would be a struggle to stay on the diet, but come to find out it was not really that hard. I have become more aware of reading labels and thinking about the foods I am eating. I thought I would crave foods more, but that has not been the case. I have found it to make better choices when it comes to what I eat.
I admit though for the past couple of days, I have slightly slipped off the diet. I ate a couple of chocolate heart pieces since it was Valentine's Day and all. Also, my son and I went to a Japanese restaurant and ordered a meal with teriyaki sauce, which has wheat in it. Come tomorrow, though I will be back on the diet. I don't feel like I have to beat myself up about it. I just take it stride and be better the next day.
So in the last week, the things I have noticed are that I have been less bloated after meals and do not feel that "heavy" and "oh I ate too much feeling." A great revelation to my short time on this way of eating was when I went to donate blood. My blood pressure read 96/60! I don't think I was ever that low. I am normally around the 120s/80s but it also depends on what I have eaten before hand. I was so happy! In such a short time, a big change has happened and it gives me the motivation to forge ahead! Let's see what the new few weeks bring me!
