Working with the geriatric population for the past couple of years, I have been exploring the keys to longevity. “What would your advice be to your younger self,” and “what advice would you give to your grandchildren” are some of the questions that I use to delve into finding people’s secret to their longevity. I see patients/clients ranging from a wide spectrum of the geriatric population including patients well into their early 100s that are still sharp as nails and walking with fairly good amount of ease. Recently, I came across an inspiring story about Henry Tseng, a111 year old man, who recently passed. He exercised every night right until the day before he died. He was a member of the YMCA for more than 40 years. Henry displayed his commitment, drive and community for fitness that he even celebrated his 110th birthday at the YMCA. His inspiring work ethic and simplistic words of wisdom have given me the same simple rules to live by.
“Exercise regularly, smile every day, and choose not to worry. Nothing is impossible. Do everything you can, and never refuse. Anybody asks you to do something, try hard to do it.”
Speaking from experience, Henry Tseng practiced what he preached, which led him to become a inspiration to many.
