On Saturday November 11th, 2017, I was looking for something family friendly to do with my husband and kids. I looked on the welikela website and found the Inglewood Open Studios. The funny thing was that they promoted having a free shuttle to take you around, yet it was so inconvenient. The open studios were so far apart and they only had two shuttles running. It was funny because as we were getting off, my husband asked the driver if he was going to wait for us, but then he said there would be another shuttle. Funny thing was there was nobody on the shuttle so it was like do you really need to leave? We were done with the studio in about 20 minutes. We went outside and looked at each other and just decided to drive ourselves.
Anyways on to the good stuff. It was so much fun observing artists' pieces and everyone's definition of art. My kids (and me too :) started to enjoy that the studios had yummy goodies to eat, which included lots of leftover Halloween candy!
The last stop we decided to go to was the Exceptional Children's Foundation. They had amazing art all created by students. Come to find out, all the art was drawn by children with special needs. It was awesome to see first hand how art can tap to different parts of the brain, where someone may be struggling with other aspects like speech, behavior, attention, reading or cognition, but can flourish with art and being artistic.
